Title: merry tiller titan
Post by: snncrv on July 05, 2014, 12:34
Hi all, I got a merry tiller titan last year from an allotment neighbour! It ran fine last year until you turned it off then it would not restart until it had cooled down. I decided to treat it to new points and condenser this year. However now I cannot get it to start. I have new fuel, new flywheel key, new spark plug, new points set to 20 thou, new condenser. I do not however have a spark at the plug. I do have electricity at the end of the sparkplug lead as I had hold of it just now and received a shock. Am now at a complete loss as to what to do next. Any help would be gratefully received.

If you have power enough to shock you then you should get a spark, try another plug, you can get dud new ones. The slightest speck of grit on the points will also spoil the spark though you don't usually get any life at all. The refusal to start when hot can be a magneto coil problem which may also cause a weak spark, equally it can be an over rich mixture or the valve clearance too small.

Try fitting an electronic ignition or ask your local lawnmower to fit one easy enough to do I fitted one to my merry tiller and its a different machine starts first or second pull every time wish I had done it before, Mike
