Stunted Tom
« on: June 05, 2019, 11:44 »
Hi Everyone  ;)
Due to ill health I'm not very good on my feet at the mo' & whilst stepping over
the door plinth of the g/house door I tripped & fell into my Shirley tom plant which
WAS about 18" tall at the time & snapped the main stem  >:(. It's got about 6 branches
with plenty of leaves on them & it has already got 3 trusses forming & in flower.   :D
I only grow 2 tom plants, a Shirley & a cherry type. In the past the plants have grown
other stems shooting up from the base but this 1 doesn't seem to be. :(
My question is simple :- Do you think it will grow any taller ? I don't have room to grow
another 1 so if it's not going to grow any taller do I cut my losses & replace it ?
Any thoughts.

I've sometimes had side shoots seemingly reappear, but that's probably because I pinched them out when they were too small and didn't make a good job of it rather than tomatoes being able to grow completely new ones.

Yes, sometimes they produce a second stem from the base too, but perhaps only when you don't want them too.  ::)

If you were able to find room for a replacement plant that would almost guarantee the broken one would find a way of producing a new stem!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
