unknown beasties in apple tree
« on: June 22, 2014, 21:16 »
While having a short break from normal toils we noticed a small black wasp shaped insect carting a leg-less spider carcase up a branch of a small cooking apple tree.
On further investigation we have noticed spider web like enclosures that contain what can only be described as cylindrical cocoons inside them.
Any ideas???
May the fork be with you

I imagine the wasp has been collecting live food on which she will have laid an egg and the larvae will eat the prey.  You must have found a nest.  These will hatch out and later infest the fruits when they start to ripen.
