Fox recipe
« on: December 07, 2010, 07:25 »
after Reading about trapping foxes and having to "destroy them" I started thinking about a lot of meat that would be thrown away. well there are recipies on line for fox meat and I wonder has anyone tried it? also does anyone have a fox that I can have to cook then I'll give a full report on the meal.

Take one fox. Skin it and gut it.

Hang the fox in running water for three days.

Cook with garlic, onion and tomato, as if you were cooking rabbit the Italian way: lay in a dish, cover, and stew for about an hour and a half.

I would probably cut the fox into halves, not quarters.

Serve with chestnut pasta, and for wine: a good Falerian.
It's not generally known that the Thais eat a lot of fox. It's the closest thing that Chinese, Thais and Malays can legally get to dog.

In fact, Manchester -- where Andrew was trying to take Margaret Beckett for dinner -- is one of the prime markets for selling shot fox to Thais.

There's also fillet of badger - most West Country pubs used to have badger ham on the bar - but that's another story.

Found that info on a web site looks like interesting stuff
it's time to fight back for every chicken or duck we have taken by a fox we should eat one fox.
I'm sure it wouldn't be long before problem solved. And a few tasty meals along the way
who is with me

Hi Wolverine, if you are quoting other internet sources, could you please name them? :)

In answer to the point of the post though, I don't think I fancy the idea of fox meat.

I think the 3 days in running water to get rid of the smell must give you some idea of how good they are to eat. If fox was palatable to the British public i think gamekeepers would have cottoned on a long time ago. :D

I would only eat fox if i was starving and had run out of tree bark. :D

ok 8doubles point taken. I was wondering about the 3 days running water to. but what about using the meat in a good strong flavoured curry to mask the "smell" I'm not saying this is gonna be the new fish and chips. I am prepared to try it though. I mean how bad can it possibly be ?  :tongue2:  I've tried many differant and unusual sometimes discusting meats in the past and can see know reason to cast fox meat aside without giving it a go.  Wish me luck

I'll wish you luck Wolverine! :D To me, its the idea of "that" smell being impregnated intot the meat that thoroughly puts me off.  :tongue2:

Fox and chips anyone?

It could help save our fish stocks in the North Sea.

Maybe not...

I like to try new foods and will eat fish and meat of many species but fox does not appeal . I would try hedgehog or badger ham given the chance and would try squirrel again even though the last one i cooked was RANK.

If you do go for the fox fricassee may i suggest a starter,

Perhaps a nice glass of snake bile to wash it down.

I was just going to say the same Casey. Our meat always comes from herbivores doesn't it although I suppose we shouldn't look too closely at the diet of hens and ducks  ::)

Lobster would be less popular if people could see what they eat. :)
