Moving aquilegia?
« on: May 17, 2013, 13:12 »
Hi,

I have a gap in a flower border and would like to move an aquilegia plant that is just coming into flower - any views on this? Will it work or sulk? Thanks,

Sweetpea
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

aye +1 on the good luck.

if you can dig a nice big chuck of earth around the root ball, you might get away with a slight check but I guess be prepared to lose it and you wont be let down. maybe put a nice bergamot in there, or a echinaca if you can get your hands on one ?

best of luck

I shift them about all the time, grow like weeds here, all self seeded then I plant them where I want them.
Never had one suffer from it. Same with violets.

I dug up a load and potted them up for my mum - they'll be fine.
You will likely get an aquilegia in the same place at a later date though... :D

Mine are like weeds too - and boy do they attract greenfly!

Might be a good idea to cut off the flower to stop the plant from expending its energy .Having said that I moved and split a love lies bleeding 2 weeks ago and have kept the flowers on
