I've got one, a cuprani I think it's called, from seeds I bought in 2007 and have then been collecting. I can't bring myself to pick the first, just delighted to have one, and the scent is amazing :) happy days are here again! X
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!

I got one - one of my plants from saved seeds, whoo hoo. The new bought ones are still not doing too well  :( going to get some comfrey pellets and see if that helps.

Picked my first bunch yesterday. Some stems on one lot are 15" long. Very elegant.

Mine did that for ages.  Sulk, I mean.  They actually seemed to like being tied into the wigwam because when I did that (tricky as they weren't very tall) they suddenly started to grow  :)

Mine have really taken off since the weekend and look to have grown about 2 or 3 inches which is great because they had been sulking for weeks now.

I'm now cutting regularly and filling small vases for the lounge and bedroom.  They are wonderful.  I cut some pinks which have also just flowered and some roses too.  With some added bronze fennel as filler, the scent is wonderful.  My Sweet Williams are just coming into flower too and I adore those; they flower from now through to late October - well worth the wait and they survived the winter really well.

As much as I love growing things to eat, I do love growing things I can smell and admire as well.

Ooh, can't wait to check on mine tomorrow. Have about 10 plants on the way, first is about 1 foot high, getting ready to bud on Wed at last check, haven't tied mine up yet. Others were only a few inches tall. First time I've grown them, how tall do they get? Have some canes ready to tie them, are wigwams best?
Thanks
Mrswashi

Sweetpeas can be anywhere between 5 and 6ft tall.  Wigwams work well but they'll climb up against anything including trellis.  I've even seen 2 6ft canes spaced around 4ft apart with a piece of chickewire stretched between the canes (kind of fence style) and they climb up it brilliantly, making a lovely scented barrier to hide unsightly parts of the garden.

I'm a little concerned having read these posts that my sweetpeas aren't flowering yet! Nor do they seem to be trying... They're roughly about 2ft tall so maybe I just planted them out a little late.

Oh well, this year is my trial! I definitely need to get myself a 'gardening notebook'.

I wouldn't worry.  It depends on which varieties you are growing and when you sowed them etc.  I am growing 2 varieties and only the early one "Painted Lady" is flowering.  The other one "Matucana" is about the same as your description, about 2 feet tall and not flowering yet.

The sweet pea has got to be my favourite. I didn't do any this year for some reason, just to busy with getting my first plot ready. I normally grow lots of them. You can't beat comming downstairs in the morning and getting that smell. As I am already making plans for next year they are already on the list.
