Title: What's going on-Calabrese a Mass of Flowers!
Post by: wendycas on July 13, 2012, 23:07
Hi
Managed to get onto the allotment after rain continuously cancelled play only to find the calabrese seedlings (planted only a month ago) covered in yellow flowers. How has it bolted so quickly?? :( They were just getting tiny little heads on them and then...overnight it seems......we've got a flower garden!   :wacko:

If they bolt that quickly-how do you know when to harvest? Is it too late to stick some more in? Also, is it too late to try some more beetroot as we've had no luck with that so far?

Feeling disillusioned but not giving up on this year yet!
Cheers
Wendy

Same here (although mine have been in since late autumn).  They are budding up and flowering overnight - I can't harvest them before they are flowering!  I have also had problems with bok choi and salad crops doing the same - I am guessing the rain and fluctuating temperatures are responsible.

I sowed some more beetroots on Monday.

Thank you for your reply. It really is incredible how quickly it's going off! I thought calabrese stayed in the ground for ages but this has only been just over a month!
Ah well, we'll try again and see what happens......
Cheers  ::)
