any frog experts? advice appreciated
« on: March 02, 2009, 09:17 »
This time last year my pond was full of frogspawn but this year so far no frogs have arrived at all.
Is this because spring is late or does it mean I won't get any - last year was a disaster after the warm Feb, we had snow and all the tadpoles were killed off - I'm concerned that they won't come back to breed this year.

Nature normally rectifies this situation....be patient, they are sure to come back again! :)

Yep I agree with aggy. I've read on a few different threads that some people have got their frogs and toads spawning.

Our's haven't started yet, but a lot of the wetland, including our pond has been frozen solid for ages ( it's thawed now) ;)...I have put that down to them not being back yet.  But they will be, they've never let us down yet ;)

They've just started thinking about spawning in my Mum's pond, they are getting "lively" as my Mum says  ::)

I think you would have a big problem trying to prevent them coming back even if you wanted to!

It's definitely the weather - colder so they are waiting for a real sign of Spring to get them on the hop!!

Thanks for all comments. I feel a bit less concerned now as a friend and his neighbour have not got any in their ponds yet.  I guess I am just impatient for spring to arrive.

we thought we were frogless but at the weekend we had a pond tydying frenzy and saw about 5 pairs of frogs, also a dear baby fish about 1 inch long, probably the sole survivor from last year as the water is always clear and theres big koi in there.
Love the froggy season, spring is on its way
