siting wild bee house
« on: May 01, 2011, 22:25 »
Hiya,

I bought a wild bee house (one of these thisng with lots of canes in) the other day and was wondering what aspect it would be best placed in height from ground, facing the sun or not etc.. Any suggestions are greatly welcomed.
Thanks in advance!
Kate
Always thankful for advice!

I seem to remember someone saying that they needed to be south-facing.

Here is a quote from Make a Solitary Bee House - The bee house must be positioned in full sun, facing south east or south, at least a metre off the ground, and there must be no vegetation in front of it obscuring the entrances to the tunnels. The bees are cold- blooded and rely on the sun's heat to warm them up in the morning, hence the need for a sunny site. They do not have furry coats to keep themselves warm like bumblebees do.

Hope this helps.
