I got mine from this company too.  Price and service were both good.

I've never experienced any problem with birds on Gooseberries, do you really need netting?

Much the same been growing gooseberries for years.
Never felt the need for any netting of them.
They will be leafing and budding well now. Check under the leaves for any sawfly or mildew and remove.
Not really ever seen that Myself, but growing the plants too close and not pruning correctlytends to promote that.

2 years running I had all my gooseberries disappear over night almost, wasn’t sure if the 2 footed thief was feathered! Then I had chance to build a fruit cage so I thought it sensible to put the gooseberry bush in it, since then I’ve had decent crops.

Wood pigeons strip any and all gooseberries that are unprotected on our site, so fruit cages and netting are essential.

Same here.  For years they never bothered the gooseberries, but now if they aren't netted there's nothing left to pick.

Around 10 years ago someone claimed human thieves had stripped the bushes but we had seen Magpies enjoying them.  Nowadays if the don't cover them you lose them. It seems still Magpies as someone rescued one from being tangled in my netting last year. It was a rather large mesh it must have fancied it's chances so smaller mesh this year.
