Starting again

With the exception of peas and broad-beans, everything I sowed outside last month has either rotted off or been overtaken by rampant weeds. I've just taken an executive decision to hoe the damn lot off and start again just as soon as this rotten weather abates

Everything is looking not bad at the mo for me, however the ground has held lots of water even though it looks fairly dry on the top. This is my first real year so a bit trial and error really.

Sorry to hear that Alan.  It really has been a poor and confused year so far.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I've got a row of peas showing, but looking, lets say well spaced :(  A few potatoes showing out of 6 rows and they've been in weeks. There are more volanteers from last years crop showing than from this years planting and thats it.  Its been too wet and cold here to sow anything else . :(

One of my beds had a thick carpet of 2inch high fat hen and i've gone over that with the mantis and dug it in. Was hoping to start sowing end of this week but we've got rain coming in again :(

it's certainly been a mad start to the season (or seasons, all of them in a single day for days).  Hope May doesnt plan to blow us to pieces this year like last  :( Best of luck with your next sowings  :D

You have my symphathy too.. especially when time is ticking on. This is my 4th season & I've had very little success with direct sowing & so rarely do it.

Just one example is directly sown parsnip seeds. These were given to me by an elderly gent a few plots over who grows a forest of them (& carrots !!) every year. I followed his instructions & still nothing shows - but my greenhouse seedlings now transplanted have been complimented..the mouse cacheing my peas is another tale.

Started to hoe off the few seedlings and masses of weeds that have appeared. Cathartic in a way. Started a whole load of seeds in my greenhouse and polytunnel, I'm done with direct sowings outside for this season.

The only good thing so far has been the strawberries in the polytunnel. Pity I can't turn the entire area over to one huge polytunnel and put two fingers up to this dreadful cold, wet and windy weather

Yes, keep going and you will soon catch up once the warmer weather comes along.
