Climbing french beans
« on: August 09, 2011, 08:15 »
My climbing french beans have been very productive.  They are going yellow around the leaves already, and the foliage appears quite thin.  My runners, a few feet away, in the same bed are green leafy and very productive.  Are the french beans just tired (they started earlier than the runners), or are the sick for something?  Are they missing potash?  I have not fed them at all.

Is it just the leaves that are looking a bit off, or is the production falling off too?

You may have hit the nail on the head in that it's simply running out of steam at the end of its season, but a general purpose feed wouldn't hurt.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Mine are going the same way, rapidly, and have fed n watered regularly but at least I've had some beans off them.  Try a feed, could be to late though.

Sounds like the French beans are "revolting" to alot of us.  3 beans/120 plants, not good. We tried tho  ::)

can't keep up with how many ours are producing still picking from the bottom as well as the top and hundreds of flowers still. Although leaves are starting to yellow at base and i have not feed them.

Great, ignore them and you get a bumper harvest, give a little TLC and they turn on you! I know what to do next year then  :)

Yorkie,
They have produced really well and seem to still have a lot of beans on them.  I have been pleased with the output and have managed to freeze quite a few.  Reading other experiences I should not be too disappointed really.  It just seemed that it was a bit early for them to be throwing the towel in.  I gave them some potash that I found in the shed.  We'll see if they continue

If your weather is anything like ours......then they won't be liking the cool nights were having.
It was down to 9C again last night  :(
