Remove tomato sideshoots or not ?
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:52 »
Hi,

Just a quick vote to see who sideshoots and who doesn't.

I didn't this year and I think I'm paying the price for it as my tomatoes are very leggy and messy in the greenhouse.

Of course it depends on whether they are cordon or bush tomatoes ;)

I always remove the side shoots as i find if you dont, like said, they get over crowded with the leaves and its hard to support them,
also i think you get smaller toms as well

You shoud nip em out when there about an inch

As MoS says, it depends on whether your variety is a cordon one (pinch out) or a bush one (don't pinch out).
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Yes, there are bushy plum tomato varieties.  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
