I've just spent a happy hour or so reading it. It's brilliant! I've learned so much too. I did not know that's what you do with leeks! I think I'll copy your chicken wire thingy for peas.
I can't believe how neat it all is. I admit to being pretty anal about mine, but have to weed every day to keep it neat and tidy and it still doesnt look as good as yours ( it is hot and humid here so things do grow fast - that's my excuse anyway!)  The things you grow in your poly tunnel, could they be grown outside too? I grow most of the same things, but outside in the veggie patch. At the moment we're over run with courgettes.
I'm having gooseberry probs - in that I have none! looking at your diary we really are pretty much exactly 6 months different.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a lovely diary.

I'm a fan too.  I enjoy my visits to your site.  I'm always amazed by the cleanliness and order of your growing areas.

Really great framing of the Haw Frost pictures.  Do you use a tripod for your shots?

The growing of show of vegetables is a bit of a dark art.  You're growing prize onions from seed under lamps.  Hero!

I'll drop a link to your site on my blog when I post my latest musing next weekend.

Cheers for the link.

I just keep my plot tidy and weeded because I'd rather weed when they're tiny rather than wait 'till they're ready to seed.

And It stops me smoking for an hour or so 'cos I can't roll a fag when my fingers are covered in cack. :D

The show onions under these new lights are a new experience.

Don't know how they'll do,but it's only a bit of a laugh anyway.

Hi vegmandan - i see you are taking your onion attempts pretty seriously. I like to grow big onions as well but usually content myself with big examples of the "smaller" varieties as i like them to keep well and have good taste. I have tried robinson's mammoth onions in the past and had them well over 5lb without a great deal of effort other than digging a really deep bed for them in the previous october and loading it with masses of compost and fertilizer. The wind knocking them over is my biggest problem.

Are you growing Ailsae?  Do the little pips come from the flowering heads of other 2nd year onions? I thought i would try mammoth onions again this year but unfortunately the seed is not in my local shop yet. I have got some kelsae seed at the pricking out stage though. I think i will have to invest in some windbrake material if i am going to take it seriously. Where do you show yours?
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
