Big onions
I am delighted to see that vegmandan is being challenged with growing big onions.  Those who challenge must remember that Dan grows his onions in a polytunnel and unless those who take up the chellenge do likewise there is no challenge. I have been growing big onions for many years but always outside, when attending local and NVA shows 90%+ winners all grow under cover. By the way I must congratulate Dan on his set up in the polytunnel, it is very impressive, anyone thinking of growing in a polytunnel should use this as an example.

You must be using Firefox then.

It works fine with Internet Explorer.

Not much I can do about it,it's my cheap nasty web builder program.

P.S I hope your Ailsae do better than mine did this year,50% grew into double onions so I'm growing a variety that I've managed to sort out from guy in the North East next year.

He's grown them 12lbs this year and he was disappointed !!

I just got 2 tonnes of well rotted horse muck last night too.

And for an extra boost I'm going to use some Nutrimate which apparently doubles the size of anything you grow and just for good measure I'm going to chuck some microrhyzal fungus in too.

So if all that doesn't work then nothing will.

My Geordie seed man is going to send me some Onion "Pips" next week from his onions last year.

Apparently they're almost like minature onion sets that form in the seed head apparently.... :?

But they grow away really quickly and easily.

I've heard that a lot of these Gaint Leeks are grown from similar things and they pay an absolute fortune for 'em.

It's a new one for me but I can't wait to see how they get on. :)
