Vermiculite and Seeds
« on: April 06, 2013, 10:20 »
Morning all

Dusted off the old heated propagator today and getting some tomato plants going, yes I know I am late but we stay mild in Pembrokeshire right through till the end of November so not too concerned.

Anyway, I am going today to go and get my normal Clover compost from the garden centre, is it advisable to add some vermiculite into it?

Thanks

Chris

I know some had success, but afraid they didn't work for me, but nothing did last year.

I love clover, and have never had to add anything to it to get the seeds to grow well.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Clover is my favorite compost by far, it is fantastic stuff, just got my first bale of it for this year from the garden centre, I asked the guy there about vermiculite he does not have any at all this year for sale he was saying the price of it has shot through the roof for some reason, he said he was now using perlite for everything, he gave me a carrier bag of it for free to have a try with so we will see.

Thanks

Rather than mix it in PP,  I would save your Perlite for sprinkling over small seeds rather than mix it in for all seeds as the larger ones will cope well without.

Good idea LilacSandy, it is the smaller seeds that were concerning me this sounds like an ideal way to use it :)

Thanks

That's the way I use my vermiculite or perlite, and it works well.
