This weekend is the National Poultry Show at Stoneleigh, some of us are meeting up on the Saturday so why not join us? Besides all different breeds of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys being shown there are also loads of birds for sale :). I'm taking a carrier box just in case there is a sablepoot hen or four for sale ;), but I might also take another box incase there are a couple of naked necks that take my fancy :lol:. Oh dear I think I may have to raid my piggybank again ::)

we will probably meet at the eating area - I will pm you my mobile so you can text me when you get there if you want. It is rather big and very noisy so doubt I would hear you on the phone :)

I am showing again, taking 18, must be mad. Have bathed 9 today, 9 more tomorrow!!

Hiya Jenny, not sure what time - I think it opens to the public at 10.00. Cochin is also showing and has got 23 entered. Do you have my mobile number? If not I will pm you with it, would love to meet up again as it's been months since we last met :).

Yes me too have a great time and lookout for any Spangled Orloff bantams I've been considering showing or at least joining a breed club.

It really is a must for all chicken lovers, loads of birds, loads of shops and loads of birds for sale. Saturday is the best day to go

Last year I was admiring the unusual ducks they had there.
The unusual ducks that were infact, geese. :unsure:

last year I avoided the sale pens so can't help you - Jim warned me not to come back with any more, however this year he hasn't mentioned anything like that :lol:

Hi there. You may be aware if this anyway but I am pretty sure that in the current issue of Practical Poultry there is an offer of buy 1 entry and 1 goes free. I haven't got the magazine with me at the moment but from memory basic adult entry is £9 so this is quite a saving!

I flooded my bathroom this morning but once I had got that sorted I made it to the show. Evie had a lie in so didn't get and grumpy dad was unable to get as well. However Janet12000 turned with Jacob and Martin, and Cluckychicken and Toni also made it. Mind you Clucky had to go as she had ordered 3 araucanas so needed to collect them :). I saw Cochin who had entered 19 birds and won several awards with them and then later saw Big Jenand Jordan who also had entered quite a few birds and won 5 firsts :D, well done Jen and Cochin.
I was really good and managed to not buy any birds in the sale (partly because there was no sablepoots or black araucanas for sale and the blue red araucanas had been sold already :(. But then Jen offered me 3 millefleur Belgium's and I couldn't resist so have now installed them in a coop - thanks, Jen :D.
Found the poots at the rare breeds section along with the appenzellers and the naked necks so registered mine for their records.
Had a chat with the reps from Garvo (Jonathon is a member on this forum) and Fancy feed.
The show was in a different hall this year and it was far better and warmer.
Hope more of you get next year and it was lovely to meet those that made it today :) xx

Next year I'll set my alarm, I couldn't believe we slept in until 11, Jules is always up by 8 at the latest at the weekend :(

Interesting the poots and appenzellers were in the rare breeds area, are the taking a register for showing Joyfull or is it to find out how many are being kept?

just a register of how many people have, and also if you want to go on the breeders list. I just did it to add my pets as I don't wish to be classed as a breeder.
I never knew the appenzellers came in black so I wouldn't mind a few of those :)
