Firsts are about 13 weeks from planting

Maincrops are about 22 weeks

Seconds are somewhere in between

Water when tubers are growing, particularly if dry, otherwise yield will be down.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Erm, I was rather hoping you wouldn't ask that one  ;) (I always forget to water at all!)

I'd guess that once you've earthed up once or twice, the plant slows down or stops its upwards growth, and instead focuses on tuber production.

But others may know better  :D

joy Larkcom says to water earlies every 10-14 days in a dry period 16Lt/sq m.

for maincrop she suggests that watering is generally unnecessary till tubers are marble sized (this stage coincides with plants flowering she says) then use 25Lt/sq m or on light soils in dry conditions you may need to give heavy watering weekly.

Think all this translates as if they're dry ...water em
