Gooseberry Bush

I have a large gooseberry bush and wondered if I dig it up can it be divided at the roots.If so, is there a certain way to do it?

I suppose if you’ve left suckers to grow from below ground level I can see how it could work, but if you grow on a single stem, you’ll just be chopping bits of root off and I’m not sure they will grow. I’d just take cuttings over winter in the conventional way. That way you don’t lose the original bush.
