Okay here is a question for you!!! We had baby chicks one week ago tommorrow.  We had Crested Cream Legbars and Copper Black Marans.  The legbar chicks from blue eggs the marans from dark brown eggs.  We ended up with 3 pale brown chicks (legbars) 2 black chick (maran) and one pure grey chick with what look like feathered legs!!!!!Any idea which one of the breeds it is as we haven't got a clue!!!!!!!! french copper blue maran - when born these are blue/grey and the furry legs are the french style  (I think  ) joyfull xx

Its a really nice looking chick, it has confused me somehow though as we got the eggs from the poultry dealer who said they were copper black marans and creasted cream legbars!!!! Surely he wouldn't have mixed them up would he.  Read on the internet that the copper black maran female is black where as the male is more grey is theos correct do you know?

I bought some eggs that were supposed to be copper blues but they hatched as copper blacks  . When first hatched the boys and girls all looked the same. Often breeders will run copper blacks and copper blues together and this way you can even get a splash as well. It looks like a Copper Splash Maran, with Copper Black Marans, you get about 50% Black, 25% Blue and 25% Splash, The Copper Marans do sometimes have slight feathering on their legs as Joyfull said from the French strain, I have found this year a lot more of my chicks have had feathered legs.

Is there any way of sexing my marans? I think I have 2 male and 1 female Legbars but no idea about the marans!!!

When they are a few week old you will start to notice the combs larger on the cockerel marans,  this doesn't help if they are both the same sex though when you only have two
