please could someone tell me if it safe to dunk chickens in the red mite killer solution (obviously not their head!) mine have bad infestation and don't think just spraying is getting in all their feathers.

If you  type red mites into the search box there has been lots of info about how to deal with it.  It seems to have been particularly bad this year (My poor girls were infested).  I don't know about dunking in solution.  The concensus seems to be using Frontline spray on the hens and diatom powder/slurry in the coop after cleaning out, including burning all bedding,   and spraying the coop with poultry guard.

I had a very bad infestation this year and I certainly didnt have to resort to dunking them in anything!  I used Frontline onthe hens.  You can buy it at Pets at Home or LrLoyds chemists.  Use the kitten strength and put one drop on each hen on the back of the neck.

I also had to cleanteh hen house and spray the perches.  If you type red mite intot eh search box at the top right hand corner of the screen you will come up with lots of very helpful advice.
