Anything I can put in the ground now?
« on: May 28, 2012, 11:40 »
Hi everyone

In my first year growing and I have Spuds, Leeks, Onions, Garlic  and Broccoli coming along nicely. I have also just planted some carrot seeds.

I have a couple of rows of space left in my patch and am wondering if there are any veg which are suitable for planting seeds straight in the ground now- other than carrots?

Any recommendations much appreciated.

Many thanks

how about perpetual spinach/rainbow chard? Very productive for a long period and easy to grow...

and beetroot?

you could always try parsnip if you don't mind them being on the small size come winter

Runner beans.  I've just sowed some more parsnip seeds as there is no good saving the seeds for next year, so anything is better than nothing!  Also sowed some more beetroot.  salad stuff like lettuce still going in.

How about some turnip/swede/neep?  I hear they are excellent 'filler' crops that grow quick.
