Post by: rogertb on October 10, 2018, 08:24
Hi chaps, I have been given a few bags of dry straw, if I just spread it about it will blow away, what's the best way of using it please ?

I'd dig in into a small trench and cover with soil.

Or....
Keep it and use in your compost bins as browns for when you add greens

Looks like useful on the compost heap to me as it's too late in the year to put it under pumpkins and things.

I once purchased a number of straw bales to be used on the compost heap and other areas, before I could use them the resident rats had made their home in them! Apparently rats love straw and wheat! >:( Since I got rid of the straw I have been rat free!!!!

Yes I noticed the bags have been ripped apart by something, maybe rats ... I'll keep my eye's out for the critters.
