Shortbread mold

I got a shortbread mold for my birthday and followed the recipe on the back.  It said to press the mixture into the mold and leave in the fridge for 30 minutes.  Turn it out onto a baking sheet and bake.  Therein is my problem.  It wouldn't turn out of the mold and I eventually scraped it out which meant it ended up in so many bits, I couldn't bake it.  Does anyone else use a mold or is it going to be a worthless decoration in my kitchen?

Did you flour or oil/butter the mold first?

When you take the mould out of the fridge, dip it in hot water to loosen the mixture.  N.B.  Do not submerge the mould & mixture !   :ohmy:  Cheers,    Tony.

What material is it made from, is it wood.
I would grease, sprinkle with flour or better still ground rice  and give it a sharp tap on the work top when you take it from the fridge.

The only shortbread moulds I've got are 2 Christmas ones from Lakeland.  They are stoneware or something and you leave the shortbread in to bake.  Apart from that, I agree with the others, have you buttered and floured the mould first?  Hope it works next time!!

Doh, I didn't do anything to the mold because there was nothing in the instructions.  I haven't made shortbread before and didn't want to risk changing the structure with flouring or greasing the mold.  It is a ceramic mold but states that it doesn't go into the oven.  I will have another try at it and do something to the mold before I put my mixture in.  Thanks as always.

Do try it again, home made shortbread is lovely :)

Hope you didn't chuck that other lot away, i can eat shortbread mixture raw :D

I don't bother with a mould when I'm making shortbread; I just cut the pieces out with cookie cutters and bake them but I can see why you would want to have the nice fluted shapes - they have a much more finished look.

Good luck and when they're finished we'll get the kettle on and you can provide the biccies!
