Onions- First attempt- Piccies
« on: September 09, 2008, 14:12 »
This is my first try at growing onions, really chuffed. Biggest one weighs nearly a pound  . Not up to Dan's standard but might be up for the challenge next year :?:
This is a variety called Mammoth.

This was them growing in my raised bed, which was a bit overcrowded so surprised they did so well.

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

They're spot on.

Especially grown outside in this years rubbish weather.

They're bigger than any I grew outside this year.

They've got good thin necks too so they should store really well. :)

Why not,have a go.

When you do tie the neck they always keep longer as there's nowhere for any botrytis or other mould to enter.

Sounds daft but any onions I dress always keep until they start to sprout in about April,I've never had any go mouldy and rotten.

Lovely onions BJ, I've just brought mine home too,
('tis far too wet out there!)
Did you grow them from seed or set?

 :)
Let's not mention those lovely  Tomatoes though.
