Post by: 4chooks on January 31, 2012, 21:08
Hi,

I've always given my hen's bread, I think I read sumwhere that bread can bring on
EGGBOUND is that right???

Obviously they are normal feed (mash) and left overs e.t.c but can't get this out of my head
so  thought i'd ask the question???

Feeding copious amounts of bread can lead to crop impactions, especially if you feed dry bread.

We have home-made wholemeal and the hens get the stale bits drizzled with water. My bread is a bit hard when it's stale!!!! :D

Hi
How do you tell if your chicken has a crop impaction?

Bread is not good for hens, remember hens naturally eat grain, bugs grass etc.Ive never heard of hens getting egg bound from eating bread but sour crop is a problem due to incorrect diet like to much soft feed e.g greens, potato peelings.Give them layers pellets and mixed corn and they will be ok..  >:(

A little organic whole wheat bread only contains wheat (in mixed corn) and yeast which is found naturally in fruit.
Ok it's "processed"........
