Netting a cherry tree
« on: March 04, 2012, 11:45 »
Hi all - no luck with searching on this though can't believe it's not come up before - apols if it has...

I have a cherry on the plot that is about 8-10' high. As soon as the cherries ripen the wood pigeons have them Last year I tried draping netting over it to make a sort of bag but not very successfully. Has anyone got any tips?

I've wondered about lashing canes to the branches to make a kind of cage but suspect it wouldn't work...or trying to make a very tall fruit cage...(hence posting in D&C)

I like the idea of lashing canes to the branches, pop on old tennis balls to cover the ends and the net should drape itself nicely over your cherries.   Just make sure the pigeons cannot get underneath.

Luckily my little sister is a dab hand at the sewing machine.

Cheers,    Tony.
