Sooo pleased........
« on: December 10, 2011, 19:43 »
........With my very first EVER harvest of homegrown Brussel's, and I just had to tell you all this  The actual plants have taken a battering with the rotten weather, but most of the sprouts look quite good!

I steamed a sample to have with our dinner tonight, and we both agreed they were lovely having none of that bitter after taste you get with shop bought ones.

Think I'll roast some for Christmans dinner, I read they taste r-e-a-l-l-y nice that way  :D

Cheers! Mash  :)

Yes, well done Mashers!

Sorry to say that I've never heard of roast sprouts! Yes, served with chestnuts, but roasting? Tell me more please!

Sounds great Mash.

I'm hoping to grow sprouts for the first time, next year.

Sadly I planted mine too late this year, and all I've got is marble sized sprouts. I suspect they won't be growing now, with the weather turning cold.

I just googled brussel's sprouts & a web site suggested they taste better sauted or roasted - I think with chestnuts, but ours will be roasted on their own I think

Like others, I'll be growing them again next year  ;)

Mash  :)

Some of mine did too Tony. I think I planted those outdoors too early. The good ones I planted out in summer I think

I think I'm right in saying that they blow when the ground isn't firm enough. You have to really firm them in when you plant them. Also walk on the soil rather than dig it over before planting.
