Hazel Arch
« on: January 17, 2010, 18:01 »
Hello,
I have finally aquired several hazel rods, 15' long by a couple of '' thick. I was hoping to make a hazel arch.
I was just going to put two stakes either side and the tie hazel rods bent over and tie them together,,,,,this a good way of doing it, u think?

I would be hoping to grow honey suckle then up along it, do I start this from seed?

Any suggestions welcome please, what else could u make from hazel...

If the stakes are flexible enough this would work. You will need to have some cross braces too to hold the structure firm.

We have self sown honeysuckle that comes up in our garden, from a wild type. They would take a fair while to get to flowering size tbh  :)

It might be better to buy plants -- make sure you get scented ones though as some of the modern hybrids lack scent
