I churned out beetroot and orange chutney earlier on this wek. Was a struggle to bottle it as it tasted so good.

Well I finally got round to making it...having had a slight panic over the fact U didn't have a muslin bag, so I improvised. I used a garlic net tied up with some dental floss.. it worked a treat... 8)

Can't wait to try it.. :)

I know what you mean... :tongue2:

My hands and kitchen look like there has been a massacre..  :D worth it though. Even more satisfiying  is that it's  my own beetroot and own onions that went in it.. 8)

Just picked some beetroot and apples for chutney - does anyone know how long it keeps? Also I'm type 2 diabetic so need to keep the sugar down so any recipes out there?

Welcome to the site dundiggin, feel free to pop over to the welcome section and tell us a bit more about your growing etc endeavours  :D

I find beetroot goes soft within a few days if left at room temperature, haven't yet tried storing it in the fridge.

There are some recipes if you click the link near the top of the page, don't know if there's a beetroot chutney one but there probably will be one.  Trouble with sugar is that you need it to counterbalance the vinegar
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi Yorkie,

Thanks for the welcome. Yes I will post.

Well I found a couple of recipes and had a go today though I had to modify it slightly as I bought pickling spice but forgot the muslin - doh! Managed to clean up the oven before the wife got home though!

Kept the suger down so will see what it comes out like!

Don't forget that chutneys generally need about 3 months before they're at their best for eating.  Something to do with the vinegar I think

My beetroot chutney tastes more like pickled beetroot
