Must have a look at that! Normally really happy with Lakeland products and their jam funnel is a definite winner - cuts out loads of mess. However, their Jelly Strainer Kit was a two man, four hands, and lots of ties to keep it stable job! Was reluctant to undo it (it stores flat) but had no place to leave it up.

Thanks for the suggestions  :D

I've remembered that I've got some (hundreds of?) old baby muslin squares somewhere in the loft  . Maybe I should run a trial, one batch teatowel, one batch muslin and one batch pop sock and compare   !
My music teacher was right. If you have to make a mistake, make it good and big and loud; with a bit of luck people will think that it was always meant to be like that.

Definitely go for the trial, especially with the pop sock, we're dying to find out!

Hi themoog, don't know where you are in N. Wales but here in Llangollen we have an excellent ironmongers/hardware store which stocks a lot of good kitchen bits n bobs, I got my cheesecloth there, it's a good size and cost about £3. Good luck tracking one down!  :D

I once used a cotton teatowel (the flat sort) and ended up with stray threads in the marmalde

Sal - I'm in Wrexham, but I'm originally from Llangollen. I know the shop you mean and I've not been in there for YEARS! Thanks for reminding me  :D.

Tea towel won't work.  Too gross a weave and fibres are too compliant - as you squeeze it will stretch and let all the pulp through.

I think a tea towel would work...
It should and there should be no worry of the melting point as I don't know what it is as your tea towel could be made of bits of everything but i know it will be high...

I always use milk filters for straining milk , you can get different sized ones, although you have to be careful when squeezing out all that lovely thick juice as they can split. You can buy them from feed merchants.
would have been enough for a crumble!
