Greece is a country made largely of limestone.

Hi Ray
You don't happen to have peat over the limestone do you? The Yorkshire Dales are all limestone but the rivers that run off are acid because of the peat cover.

Hi Chrissie,

Yes we are here all of the time, permanent residents of the island of Crete.

Next spring, buy some tomato plants locally, they sell them everywhere. Plant as normal. Keep a couple of plants and get a large plastic pot. Fill it with the normal compost that you buy in a bag at a garden centre or local co-op and plant the last two plants in that. Make sure that they are all watered throughout the summer. The difference between the plants in the pot will show the difference in your soil. If they all die or are useless then it is you who is doing something wrong.

Good luck

Ray
