What sort of currant is this ?

I have a big currant bush in my new allotment, it has just started flowering and I dont know what sort it is , any Idea

it does not smell of much so probably not a Black Currant
has no Thorns

and has these flowers on it now

I believe its an  'hareberry'  quite rare! where did you get it?

in days of yore it was believed that the hare berry would grow where a hare had wept for the dead Christ on the celebration of 'Eastre'.it was of ten linked to fertility and it was said that a spring wedding chamber should have a sprig in the bed to ensure fertility to the newly wedded couple! just as well the hareberry is thorn less eh! :shock:

I don't know, but also don't know the flower. The currants and gooseberries I have look different.

If it rare when you prune you should try to take cuttings.

Hopefully via the internet we can make it more common !!

After much Googling & searching of images, I think it's a Jostaberry, a gooseberry/blackcurrant cross

I then would think it is, lot of work you put in there, as I thought it might be , 'cos a guy has one on the lottie, but couldn't find a photo of them, good old wicki. Well done. :)
