Bed base
« on: September 30, 2023, 12:37 »
Having won this fantastic mattress, which is being handmade, I have decided to treat it to a new base.
Definitely not an ottoman style.  I currently have  continental drawers under .
How about not having drawers and having storage boxes instead.     Please give me your views and opinions, as I have to get this in hand soon.     Thanks,  Mrs Bouquet

Always storage boxes, drawers anything but under bed storage. I like to be able to vacuum under the bed and chase out the spiders

What is the difference?

Cheers,  Tony.

Sorry Tony, just my bad English.  I meant instead of a base with built in drawers, having a base with space to slide boxes under.  As clear as mud now  :D  Mrs B

We have beds with built-in storage drawers. Methinks that the actual base would be stronger with them in-built rather than having less solid legs to support the base.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Gotcha MrsB,
we have boxes on castors made by yours truly, but they are a couple of inches too high!  So the bed base sits on circular sections of tulip wood. ::)

Cheers,  Tony.

Unless you need under-bed storage I'd avoid it completely and keep it so things can be cleaned or moved easily. I'd also make sure whatever you buy is little toe friendly after those night-time trips to the bathroom.

Have you checked with the mattress people to see what type of base they recommend, they may have requirements on things like top surface.

Definitely storage boxes!

We had a divan bed with built in drawers but eventually, the drawers started to stick, and were unusable!

Those clear plastic boxes with tops should do the trick, and it maybe better have more small ones than - say - four large ones, as they can get pretty heavy to hoik around! The smaller ones can easily be pushed around with a broom!

I like drawers in the bed base. They're fine for towels and sheets, for example. I can't get under the bed to vacuum, and that's fine by me

I would avoid using open topped containers, as they will gather dust. Use ones with lids.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
