Hi guys, so I bought a couple of 1yr old apple trees back in 2020 and I planted them in fairly big pots as I didn't want them to be a permanent fixture. Last year I fed and watered them with no joy, but this year I was full of hope for a half decent crop of apples, and although they've been fed and well watered throughout the season I've only ended up with half a dozen apples, ranging from marble size to ping pong ball size, they just haven't filled out! When they first started forming everything looked promising, but then after a few weeks, I started getting a lot of new growth, obviously I'm new to apple trees so I don't know what I'm doing wrong... anyone any ideas please?

My apple trees are in the ground rather than pots, but it is a poor crop this year.  I haven’t watered them, but they are mulched and fed.

I think it is probably weather related more than something you have done wrong.

Those pots look a bit small.  I'd go for a pot at least 30l, maybe 50l.  Shading the pot might help and a square pot might stop the roots throttling themselves if you have one. 

My ground planted apples look a bit small this year too, probably due to lack of rain.
