ay up i dont think enough hen keepers know about leg mites, a lot of folk i have spoken to think its just an old bird , the mite burrows into the legs causing raised scales , it can make the bird lame and in time it can die from weakness, now it is simple to detect and easy to treat , has i said above the legs have raised scales ,simply brush vegetable oil onto the legs every 5 days approx this will suffocate the mite , or brush surgical spirits onto the leg this will kill the mite again maybe twice a week ,this was advised by my vet, my friend treated his bird with parafine and this worked very well sorry for spelling hope this will help

It's called scaley leg astokesy, and petroleum jelly spread all over legs works too, bu can make bedding stick to their legs a bit.
