I have been trying to grow sweet scented violets for years.
We have violets in the garden, and once I sent off for viola odorata seeds, but none of the plants seem to have any scent in the flowers.
I read somewhere that some people are unable to smell the perfume.
Do all violets have scent, and is it me that just can't smell it?

I believe that many flowers with a perfume are subject to the individual's personal ability to detect their scent which can differ from person to person and also the time of day when the scent it released. I recently bought two different violas and can smell their scent ok, so best to go to a garden centre and try them out.

That's an idea. Thanks Goosegirl. I haven't been to a garden centre for ages so I might give that a try. It will make a good day out.
