Does Comfrey hold blight spores?
« on: March 06, 2013, 20:32 »
Hi,

does anyone know if Comfrey holds blight?

I have a plastic drum full of cuttings from last year that have rotted down nicely that I was going to put down in my potato trenches in a few weeks.
I also have some comfrey tea from last year that I was going to use on my tomatoes.

One of the guys at the allotment mentioned that he was told that comfrey holds blight and as we all got potato blight last year on our allotment he was ditching his comfrey cuttings and tea from last year as they will all be full of blight spores.

Anyone heard of this before?

Cheers,

Stooby.

Blight attacks members of the potato and tomato family.

Comfrey is not one of them so it cannot harbour blight.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

If It's true, then It's news to me. I put a lot of comfrey on my spud beds both as fresh cut leaves in the trenches and tea feed for the leaves. I've done this for many years and Last year was the first time I've had blight. I blame the wet weather, not the comfrey.
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

Thanks DD, it would have been a shame to get rid of it all without using it.
