Post by: Lionel on April 21, 2012, 10:09
Help!.....how can I stop ants killing my tomato plants in greenhouse? after checking area is clear of ants,I put in tomato plants and lo and behold within days ants by the hundred are the cause of infesting the root area and the plant collapses and dies. Is it safe to use "nippon" or something similar? and replant with more tomato plants afterwards?.....ay help appreciated....(amazed at all the gardening sites/books that say ants do no harm!!!!!.....grrrrrrr )  >:(

believe it or not you can go to the vets and buy a spray its about 12 to 15 pounds spray liberally around the outer edge of the greenhouse and they should stay away for yrs! cant remember the name but it works in the house too around skirting boards but i wouldnt spray it inside the greenhouse while any kind of vegetation is in there it is a very strong insecticide!

use ant traps such as home guard -- ants take bait back to nests which kills at source, no risk too plants or pets
