I got 3 girls in the end, didnt get my silver sussex and didnt want to wait 2 weeks, have already started bartering with the wife to get my silver sussex in a few weeks. Got them home about 5pm and put them to bed, opened the door this morningand took them a little while to come out but they are all now out. its funny watching them sort out who the govenour is around the food hopper. i have a poultry vet in the town i live and they say they will give a free health check so all is good.
I think its joy building up the vets ? ? ? ?

congratulations, don't forget we want to see photos of these as soon as you can :D.
thanks for the details about your vets - I will get Aunt Sally to post that in the vets section for anybody else who may be in your area, and well done for seeking out a vet before you needed one :D

its quiet sad but have been siting at the kitchen table watching them out of the patio doors, seems like the sussex line is the boss then the Bovans Nera ( or thats what i think the guy told me it was) then the bluebelle
-
not sad at all just normal chicken keeper behavoir
-
may have to get a bigger pellet hopper, the 3 of them have almost eaten there way throughwhat i put in there already. lol the sussex is now sat next to the feeder guarding it, may have to move the water away from the food so the others can at least have water

In the spring/summer you will need to get a bench so that you can sit and watch them. I say i wont be a miniute just going to the girls and i am there watching them most of the time. Congratulations on getting your girls they are very addictive. I started with 4 ex bats and now have 12. Enjoy your time with them. :)

maybe a silly question, but do i have to worry about them eating too many layers pellets ? the girls are going through them like they havent eaten in a week, or is that just how much they eat ? also i am iching to try the corn treat to see if they will eat from me. this time of year late after noon 4pm ? as it will be getting dark

ok i have taken some pictures but being a techophobe i cant work out how to or where to up load them, someone simple persons terms please :)

There is a tutorial somewhere on this site but I find the easiest way is to join up a free hosting site such as photobucket.com upload your pictures there and then copy the image link (it'll be obvious once you've done the photobucket part) that is underneath the chosen picture.
Paste the link into your message on here and the magic of the internet does the rest. ;)

p.s. congrats on getting the hens. i'm eagerly awaiting the pics ;)

Thanks for info, i am doing it now
-
okay i have posted some pics on page 65 :) of the chicken pictures
-
just let them feed adlib (so yes you may need either a bigger one or perhaps two feeders) and give them corn about half hour before it gets dark - I sprinkle mine so they have to seek and scratch for it - don't give them too much though just a small handfull between them :D
-
Hooray you got your girls - happy chicken watching ;)
