Title: Where can you buy a roof vent for a greenhouse ?
Post by: wbmkk on October 08, 2013, 18:26
I have just dismantled an old greenhouse, which I was very kindly given.

Unfortunately, the roof vent is missing ... ie the opening window. A plain glass piece was fitted in its place.

I think a proper vent would be very useful, if not essential, but have no idea where I could buy one. I don't even know what make the greenhouse is, it's just a 'bog standard' 8 x 6 aluminium model.

thanks for any advice provided

If you can't identify the maker - then a louvre kit might be the best way to go, cos they are sold without glass, you get that cut to fit the opening you have  Or cut the pane you have if you're ok working with glass

Many thanks for your reply.

There is in fact one louvre window in the green house, so I suppose if I put in another, it would help with air movement. The one fitted is to the top of the vertical side, so I may fit t'other one, low down.

Here's the picture of my new GH, before I took it down

Or as high as you can get it at the end opposite the door - for a through draught

I think, ideally, you could do with two roof vents.  I find that lourvre and roof vents provide excellent convection cooling, which is less stressful than opening the door etc. to get cooling via a draught.  It won't matter a jot in the middle of summer, as I expect you'll need to throw everything open, including the door, to keep it cool, but in spring when the plants are young and the sun not so fierce I think it helps a lot.

That said a chum of mine wanted to add a extra vent to his greenhouse this spring, the cost was horrific for a retro-fit so in the end he didn't bother, so you may find that even if you discover the brand that it isn't cost effective.

Those diagonal braces on the sides are at a strange position (more normally they connect to the end uprights I think) so I wonder if that might help someone to identify the brand?
