Title: Dissapointing Portulacas
Post by: Goosegirl on September 01, 2013, 12:58
After last year's success growing some in a window box, and given that it wasn't the warmest or driest year, I had great hopes of a floriferous display this year both in my window boxes and two hanging baskets. I know they love dry conditions and we have had these but, apart from a one-off early feeding which I later found out they don't appreciate, I have had more leaves than flowers. Anyone else had this problem?

I've not grown them, but certainly we have had trouble getting them at work. I have quite a few customers that ask for portulaca each year and really struggled to get plants for them.

Maybe the growers have not had a good time getting them into flower either

I got mine from Jersey Direct as plug plants and they have grown well, but not smothered in flowers as they should have been, given the summer weather we've had.
