I've just dragged myself into the 21st century with an iphone.  But I'm flummoxed as to which 'app' (and there are many) is best for back garden star gazing.

Any good or bad reviews out there?

I use Star Walk 2. Once calibrated you hold your phone up to the sky and it tells you the constellations. Even works inside the house!!!!
Make life so easy when you get youngsters asking what star is what.

It will ask you to pick your postcode the first time you use it then will alter everything on the page to show you YOUR view.

Many thanks everyone for those ideas.  I did see Sky Walk 2 on the apps list so I'll go for that.  Thanks for the computer based star guides,  they are already bookmarked.

Stellarium is the best PC software there is, I use it to plan my observing session, plug the scope into the pc via USB and Stellarium will point the scope to the object I want to view.
For the phone I believe Stellarium is charged for, the best app I came across but not sure if avaialble for iBricks is SkEye, fee download.

Good mornng Nikkithefoot,  ive downloaded Star Walk 2. but i 'm having a tad of difficulty  setting it upintially.

SkyViewLite is really good. Easy to set up and use. Point at the sky and it tells you the star or planet you are looking at, or use the search field.  No need to upgrade if requested by the app.

The app  I wanted is a no go with my phone as it doesn't have a magnetic facility to operate a compass and thereby orientate the sky vew.
