Why is it the leek bed

Seems to get hundreds more weeds than any other. Three years running now its been the weediest bed going.

I know they need to come out but I cant eat them fast enough.

No idea why your leeks have a weedy bed (worse than else where on your plot) unless the weed seed made it's way there in a mulch or other organic material?

My last leeks are sat sitting in the fridge waiting for a date. Lovely flavour and worth the effort with the hoe.  ;)

Oh so its just me. They just seem to encourage weed growth wherever they grow.
Will be having words with them.

Do you put anything as a mulch on your leek bed that you don't on other beds?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I was confused, I thought you couldn't get the weeds out as fast as you could eat them...

I think it's probably something you do to the other beds which stops the weeds, rather than something especial in the leek bed that's encouraging them.

I copied an idea out of a book and dibbed leeks through a few sheets of wet newspaper laid over the bed.  It really works well.

Have a look at gavinconways diary, he uses membrane for nearly anything, I think there's a picture on an onion thread.

BQ do you plant out with enough space to hoe? You can always just hoe between the rows & hand weed around them.

Get a gardeners line or a board & plant along it,move back down the plot & repeat. You can stagger the plant in between the ones from the previous row to save space. Can't do you a diagram but I bet some one can.
