We'd like to add these beauties to our collection.  Anyone have experience of them or breed them :)

I have three (was 4 but sadly lost one  :(), they can be quite flighty and do like to free range. Grannie Annie bred these but she no longer has any. Have you looked at the appenzeller website?

Staffies are softer than you think.

Thanks Joyful, had a long look at the site :D

I think they would fit in very nicely with my Sablepoots :D but it's not safe to let them free range because of the badger, fox and next doors nasty cats so would they be ok in a large run?

They would be okay in a large run as long as you have the roof covered!  Our trio could fly very high!  They are best suited to free range, and are very good escape artists.  Cockerels can be nasty, and the girls were quite vocal until I had to take the cockerel out of the run for a bit, then they quietened down!  :D

Don't know how they'd get on with sablepoots.  Not sure if Joy has had her apps and poots together or not.

they are really pretty birds though!

These are the Mum's and Dad of Joy's Appenzellers!

mine are separate, only because the poots need a safer and enclosed environment whereas the zellers are happy wandering around helping themselves to the wild plums. Being bigger than the poots they cope well with the larger girls  :)

The poots are spoiled by Jules (still come in at night) and we are lucky to have a very large garden so I think we'll look into getting some apps next spring :D

I'm a sucker for pretty birds :D

again as someone else said they are very pretty and the males are a bit fiesty.
