flowers still blooming away
« on: October 13, 2009, 13:51 »
Is everyone elses flowers still going strong.  I would have thought they would have been finished by now.  Still got buzzie lizzies, galiardia, osteospermums, geraniums, calendula, and ganzanias.  Only ones finished are the Asters and the california poppies and the small marigolds.

In the back yard (completely walled and gets a bit of sun till about 2pm) I still have geraniums, busy lizzies and fuchsias going strong :)
In the front of the house, which gets mostly shade now :( they have all gone over, so tommorrow I'm off to get....... pansies, I think, and perhaps some small variegated pansies :)

I got some Pansies for the first time this year, as I was jealous of next doors winter display LOL.  I got mini plugs (bit of a pain these), unfortunately the squirrel keeps digging them up though, but I have some as a back up and gonna get some more.  How daft is this I didn't know you could get 'winter' pansies until I saw next doors last year.

Variegated pansies? doh I think I invented a new plant meant variegated Ivies to trail down the sides :D

But pansies are sooo reliable, and if you put them in the border when you clear the pots for summer they usually live for a couple of years, as they are short lived perennials really..so well worth the pennies ;)

I grew Rudbeckias and Echinaceas from seed this year and am so pleased with the results.  They are still flowering themselves silly even now.  I have inspired myself to grow even more perennials from seed next year.

Better get onto eBay and start looking for cheap seeds!

The way to go saves money and serves as my basis of plants, with a dash of busy lizzie here and there and lobelia.

We have 2 beautiful big hanging baskets at the front of our house that are still looking as lovely as in summer. We have even had people stopping to comment and take photos.  ::) :D
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

I am in Shropshire and my gaillardias, busy lizzies, echinacea, penstemons, cosmos are all still flowering.  I expect a frost will arrive and take all of these away shortly.  I am still collecting tomatoes as well from the greenhouse and also some outdoor toms.
