Swollen ankle...
« on: October 06, 2012, 16:39 »
Any ideas?  Agnes has a swollen ankle.  Fully weight bearing, not limping, foot has been examined and no redness or damaged areas, no broken skin, seems to mainly confined to the ankle, pad is a bit swollen too and warm to touch  Leg ring is still loose so nothing constricting it.  She doesnt mind being picked up and us poking around with it.  She is eating and drinking and seems her normal self.  She doesnt perch so dont think she has fallen.  Bumblefoot perhaps?  Any other clues to what it may be?  Have washed it, used antiseptic and confined to quarters.

They can be very clumsy, falling off things, misjudging distances and failing to reach the perch, so probably just a bang. Their feet are always a lot warmer than you'd expect; if it is just about the same as the other, then no problem. If it is warmer, but no bright redness then probably just increased blood flow to the area.  She may end up with a small permanent swelling if she's cracked or crushed the bone, but it will be OK in a while.
Sounds as though she's OK, but please update.
