Japonica Chaenomeles disaster

According to one of my books you plant semi-ripe cuttings in a cold frame in summer, so I think I would try & find some semi-ripe cuttings, as it has sentimental connections I would also try a couple of soft cuttings & a couple of hard cuttings.  I don't know if this would work but I think I would also try a couple of cuttings in water too, maybe they would root that way like fuchsias do.

It's gone to the tip....it may regrow from the roots/stump.
I've done all I can...........cuttings 3 different ways, and hope at least one takes.

If their's regrows and a cutting takes I will be the new owner of a lovely deep red, large flowered chaenomoles japonica or we could both end up with nothing...........
