Get your dad to do it!!  sorry, not being serious there, well only half being serious - I have a pallet in my car and not quite worked out how to split it up yet - but going to set my dad on it as he's good with building things wood related, so would also appreciate tips, but will also let you know how he...I mean I get on, but I too was just going to attack them with hammers and hope for the best.

Most are ringed nails i think so you might want to get crow bar to help with nail removal. I have never had much luck with this due to splitting.  There is someone that comes to the park that does it all, we just give him a call if we need any.
Thanks
Kris

Pallets are ring nailed. The fixings have more strength than screws!
A joiner mate of mine has a device called a nail bar, it has jaws that grab the nail head.
You can then lever out the nail or it snaps the head off the nail.
It's a bit extreme but it does the job with little mess.

I use a lump hammer to knock a sharp bolster chisel between the pieces, cutting through the nails rather than trying to pull them out.
It's a bit 'brute force and ignorance' but works ok for me..

In the past I have found the quickest way is to use a punch to push the nails through the planks.

Cheers,

I've found the best way is to use a Hacksaw in between gaps

It's hard work, but it works for me & no splitting

A nail puller is the tool but they are not cheap. Several on fleabay and amazon.
I found one in rubbish we were clearing from a derelict house, had to fight the other chippie for it, good job he was small and 65ish. :)

anyways ;) i was havin a look around dads workshop and garages as u do, to find a angle grinder :D
now i know what u are thinking, to extream! but my dad has been teaching me theys skills for about 5 years now and i am only 17, also my job is a workshop assitent and am cutting metal all day and useing big macheins.

but yeah anyways!! lmao i allways get side tracked...

what do u lot think? yay! or nay!

*edit* also would like to add, i have 20 of the bad boys to slit so when i said fast/easy way to split, oh i meen it lol  ::)

Grinders arn't meant to go anywhere near wood!!!!!!
The discs burst and leave you with a face full of carbide!!!!
Stick to the simple quick bolster and lump hammer
Yer dad won't want you going to hospital!!!!

you need 1 of 3 method
a Nail Puller.
or a Wonder Bar.
or a 10" Pry Bar.
in my tool kit and used most days are a wonder bar and a pry bay as this has a nail puller on it.
for your info you really shouldn't hit a metal bar/chisel with a claw hammer as one of the claws hitting you in the eye is defo not fun.
3rd option is probably best bet.
dont permissum dandelions frendo vos down.

If it cant be pulled by hand,
1; its not ready
2; use a landrover...

The link below is to a tool very similar to the one my mate uses:-
http://www.toolbank.com/p/C3351/FAINAILPULL
It's a bit expensive for occasional use, but it does the job!
Hammer and bolster, bar, teeth, hacksaw between board and bearer.
Just have a go you'll soon find the best method for you.
