I've had a bad year with the beans too - think its the weather. Some of the Sutton pods I've been picking have had just 1 bean in 

Still they do taste mighty good ! and the fewer you have the more you will appreciate them.

Some of the flowers never did set, and others romped away!

Four to a pod is frustrating, but if you wait, they get bigger?
